The Planetarium of Heraklion, is a window to the mysterious world of the stars. The high tech dome, offers virtual travels all over the universe. From our Solar System to our litt le Earth, from the closest star the so called Sun to the most distant parts of other Galaxies, from the Speed of Light to the Dark Matter the mysteries of the Universe are endless. In Planet Crete, science fiction meets sci ence reality. Internationally recognized dome productions and educational shows, are exciting, entertaining and full of information. In addition to this, there is a special experience inside the planetarium, that offers a virtual trip through space using Virtual Reality (VR).

On October 4, 1957, the Soviets launched the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1, into space. Four years later on April 12, 1961, Russian Lt. Yuri Gagarin became the first human to orbit Earth in Vostok 1. His flight lasted 108 minutes, and Gagarin reached an altitude of 327 kilometers (about 202 miles).
